A Mountain Quiltfest

Looking for something different to do later in the week? If you happen to be staying in one of our Pigeon Forge cabin rentals this week, consider getting wrapped up in the 18th Annual A Mountain Quiltfest, which runs March 14 through 17 at several venues in Pigeon Forge, including the Smoky Mountain Convention Center, Music Road Convention Center and Grand Majestic Theater.

The event draws some 20,000 quilt novices and experts alike to the Smoky Mountains each year to experience classes and seminars, shop the vendor mall and view impressive works of handcrafted quilting. A Mountain Quiltfest is produced by the city of Pigeon Forge and co-hosted by the Piecemakers and Sevier Valley Quilters guilds.

More than 60 classes and seminars are scheduled, covering such topics as how to hand-quilt without a frame, making Civil War quilts and understanding the value of color. Along the way dozens of different types of patterns and stitches are explored and explained by experts from all over the country.

Other Quiltfest activities will also include quilt appraisals, mealtime lectures at Pottery House Café in Old Mill Village, a Quiltfest dinner social where quilters can mix and mingle (also at Pottery House Café) and a show-and-tell session.
